Bikram posture Savasana is of paramount importance to the Bikram yoga series and any yoga practice. It is a deceptively difficult posture despite its physical simplicity. The posture is a shift from doing to being and presents the mind with a drastically different set of challenges whilst enabling the body to return to a normal state.
Benefits of Savasana:
- Returns cardiovascular circulation to normal, improving heart rate recovery time and providing circulatory system opportunity to provide nutrients throughout the body. Magnifying benefits of the posture before it
- Improves blood pressure and sleep by returning body to natural state
- Teaches complete relaxation through stilling and focusing of the mind, and relaxes the central nervous system calming the mind
- Helps relieve stress, depression and insomnia
- Reduces headache and fatigue
Savasana Tips:
- Struggling to calm your mind? Try breathing in for five counts and out for seven counts to slow your heart rate. If your mind continues to wander, just return to focus on your breath
- Remember that you don’t need to do anything or go anywhere, just be in the posture. Don’t overthink it, fidget, wipe or scratch
- Try to keep a soft gaze on one spot on the ceiling without holding any tension in the body – try to feel like your whole body is being absorbed by the floor
- Keep your arms relaxed beside you, wherever they naturally fall which should be relatively close to the body
